This past week I’ve been in rehearsals for “The Mars Hotel“, a new piece from choreographer/dancer Ziyian Kwan (dumb instrument Dance), with live music by composer/cellist Peggy Lee performed by Handmade Blade (Lee, with guitarist Aram Bajakian, and myself on trumpet & electronics). The piece also features dancer Noam Gagnon (Holy Body Tattoo/Vision Impure). I think it’s going to be a good one! It’s fun to be playing in this context again (live music with dance), and Peggy’s written some great stuff for us to play. There’s also plenty of room for improvising. The 35 minute piece and will be performed at the Firehall Arts Centre on Wed July 8th (7pm) & Friday July 10th (9pm) on a shared program with Mocean Dance as part of the Dancing On The Edge festival.
