Another busy weekend coming up, with three shows with three different bands at three different venues. Threes. First up is The Sands at The Media Club on Friday, June 12th. This group is a singer-songwriter collaboration between vocalist Julie McGeer and cellist/arranger Peggy Lee. The band on Friday will also feature Aram Bajakian, guitar; JP Carter, trumpet/effects; Patrick Metzger, bass; Barry Mirochnick, drums. Also on the bill are Joline Baylis and The Crackling. [Facebook event link] Then on Saturday, June 13th I’ll be playing with Proliferasian (Lan Tung, erhu; JP Carter, trumpet/effects; Colin Cowan, bass; Kevin Romain, drums) at the China Cloud. We’re preparing for our performance at the Vancouver Jazz Festival on July 1st with the Little Giant Chinese Chamber Orchestra (Taiwan). Gord Grdina opens with a solo set. [Facebook event link] Then on Monday, June 15th it’s Sick Boss at The Lido. We’re also preparing for our show at the Van Jazz Fest, which happens on Friday, June 19th. This will be my first time playing with this group, which features Cole Schmidt, guitar; James Meger, bass; Dan Gaucher, drums; Tyson Naylor, keys/accordion; JP Carter, trumpet/effects; Peggy Lee, cello; Debra Jean Creelman, voice.
