🎼 It’s the most, wonderful time…of the year 🎶
So much great music is happening on the opening weekend of the 2015 Vancouver Jazz Festival. I’m personally rather stoked to be involved with some pretty damn interesting projects, starting on Friday June 19th, at 1pm at Performance Works with SICK BOSS. Had a great time playing with these guys at The Lido last Monday. The band is Cole Schmidt, guitar; Peggy Lee, cello; Tyson Naylor, keys/accordion; JPC, trumpet/effects; James Meger, bass; Dan Gaucher, drums, and Debra Jean Creelman, voice.
Later that evening I’ll be playing a SOLO SET in the friendly confines of The Ironworks, as part of Destroy Vancouver, an experimental music series curated by John Brennan. Been looking forward to this one for a while. The show starts at 11:30pm and also features solo sets by pianist Lisa Cay Miller and drummer Billy Martin (the Martin between Medeski & Wood).
On Saturday June 20th I’ll be playing two shows back-to-back on the two stages set up on either side of the Vancouver Art Gallery. Both shows are free to the public! At 3pm on the Robson Stage, I’ll be joining Tony Wilson for his TRIBUTE TO JIM PEPPER. The band is Tony Wilson, guitar; Dave Say, tenor sax; JPC, trumpet; Paul Blaney, bass; Ben Brown, drums; Deanna Gestrin & Russell Wallace, vocals.
Then at 5:15pm on the Georgia Stage I’ll be reuniting with FOND OF TIGERS to play some light afternoon jazz. Bring the kids! With Stephen Lyons, guitar; JPC, trumpet/effects; Morgan McDonald, keys; Shanto Bhattacharya, bass; Skye Brooks & Dan Gaucher, drums; and very special guest Paul Rigby, pedal steel/guitar!
Thinking these will be good times.
